Ten Years. Nine Losses. One Glorious Hello: Amanda & Trent’s Story

Some stories begin with heartbreak.

Before joy.
Before arrival.
Before the first hello.
There is waiting.

An ache.
And sometimes, loss that feels impossible to speak aloud.

As we prepare to release our very first book — 10 years in the making — we’re revisiting some of the moments that have marked us most. Stories that shaped this project from the inside out. Stories like this.

We met Amanda & Trent after a decade-long journey through the kind of pain most wouldn’t press through — and what we witnessed in that delivery room was nothing short of holy.

This is Amanda & Trent’s Story.

For ten years, Amanda & Trent lived in the space between hope and heartbreak.

She experienced nine miscarriages.
Nine pregnancies filled with possibility — and then, loss.
She felt her body give and give again. Her heart breaking, mending, hoping and breaking once more.

Miscarriage is often a silent grief. A private ache.
But Amanda carried hers with strength, grace and a fierce determination that this wasn’t the end of the story.

She kept showing up.
To the scans. To the bloodwork. To the conversations that began with “I’m pregnant” and ended in heartbreak.
And still — she held on to hope. Even when it was fragile. Even when it hurt to believe again.

And then — finally — in year ten, a different ending.
A tiny cry that broke the silence.
A baby boy.
Alive. Here. Held.

There we were in that room, welcoming that tenth, healthy baby after a painful ten year journey. Not a dry eye in the room. We can’t tell you how raw and intense that joy truly was.

It felt like something beyond explanation — as if the whole world paused to honour every tear, every prayer, every moment of Amanda & Trent’s waiting.

It wasn’t just a birth.
It was a redemption.
A promise fulfilled.

When I (Bel) asked Trent & Amanda in that sacred birth suite how they had held on to hope, they said it was their faith and their village that carried them — their family, friends and church community. In the moments of loss that felt unendurable, they held them, comforted them and continued to hope when they were too weary to have hope themselves.

Amanda & Trent’s story reminds us that grief and joy can live in the same breath. That every baby born is a miracle — but some come with an extra weight of wonder. And that the first hello is never just a moment. It’s a culmination of everything that came before it.

Amanda & Trent, thank you for letting us witness your strength.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, and with the world.

We’ll never forget the moment your miracle arrived.

This is just one of the many stories from our 10-year archive that will live inside the pages of our upcoming book.

We can’t wait to share it with you — to honour people like Amanda & Trent and to make birth visible, powerful and unforgettable.
